No Reason to Shrink

Our RMMR memory verses for May: Ephesians 6:10-11
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.

I love these verses, particularly verse 10. Finally, be strong... Before I even have time to protest that I can't or become frustrated because I can't, it says "in the Lord and in the strength of His might." This is such a benevolent command. Who but a loving Father would tell us to stand--and then knowing that we can't, gives us His own indefatigable, unassailable strength.

In the strength of the Lord's might, bedecked with the armor He has given us, we can stand firm. As John Calvin noted, "If the Lord aids us by his mighty power, we have no reason to shrink from the combat." (Commentary on Ephesians)

How has memorizing these verses blessed you this month?

I must confess I have not memorized this verse this month, but it definitely is one of my "go to" verses for the battles I face.

I really liked your post Jenny. I love that word: indefatigable. That's my God! That's my Warrior!

Your posts reminds me of 2 Chronicles 20:15 - 18, "Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed at this great horde, for the battle is not yours but God's. Tomorrow go down against them.... You will not need to fight in this battle. Stand firm, hold your position, and see the salvation of the LORD on your behalf, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid and do not be dismayed. Tomorrow go out against them, and the LORD will be with you"

When I am tempted to shrink back I need these verses to strengthen my faith in my Mighty God and Savior Jesus Christ who fights on my behalf.

one of my favorites. But now I have a new one: 2 Chronicles 20:15-18 is so powerful. How good it is to remember it is not our battle. We need not fight, only: stand firm and see the salvation of the Lord on our behalves.
